Global Silk Scenario  

The world raw silk production has reached 125605 tons by the end of fiscal year 2004. China has a market share of 81.65% (102560 tons) followed by India with 13.14% (16500 tons). Technologically superior country like Japan has a share of 0.21% with the production of 263 tons. Brazil, Thailand and Uzbekistan have been competing with each other with their market share of 1.20%, 1.13% and 0.76% respectively.

 

The other countries which are contributing to the world silk production are, Korean Republic (0.12%), Vietnam (0.60). All the other countries practicing sericulture put together contribute 1.19%. India’s share of export market has reached 640.90 Mn US $ by the end of fiscal year 2004-05.
