Credit Action Plan for 2006-07

Sericulture is dominated by marginal and small farmers who possess, on an average, one-acre of land and majority of them are in the clutches of poverty because of inadequate credit flow, under utilization of natural resources & new technology resulting in low productivity. Most of small and marginal farmers are not getting the expected income. This is mainly due to inadequate rearing houses, rearing equipment, timely finance and group dynamism.

In order to increase the productivity, so as to make the price of the silk competitive in the market, improved technologies as recommended by the Research Institutes for separate rearing shed, shoot rearing equipment with V1 mulberry garden planted with saplings, Vermi compost, green mannuring, chawkie rearing etc must be adopted. Apart from well-designed rearing house, rearing equipment and appliances are essential inputs for the farmers practicing sericulture. One of the important areas, an area, which requires attention of bankers, is adequate credit flow for taking up independent rearing houses. A well-designed rearing house is extremely important for good productivity and quality and therefore, rearing house should be available to the farmers to meet specific environmental conditions.....
